One of JoAnn's nephews is Jordan, and he is the coolest kid I've been around. His mom is Erin (pictured here), Jo's youngest sister. I first met Jordan at a Barnes and Noble bookstore with JoAnn, and Erin was walking Jordan, less than a year old, around in his stroller. He has this very soft voice, with a mischievous and playful smirk of a smile, and very intelligent and compassionate eyes. He's very fun to be around. Jordan adored his aunt Jo, and Jo doted on her young nephew. She loved it on those occasions when Jordan spent the part of the day and the entire night at her home. I had the privilege of being able to know Jordan and hanging around with him at Jo's place. One time, Jordan was spending the night with Jo, she and I made dinner for the three of us, and then we popped some popcorn and watched a movie I had brought over, called "The Iron Giant". Jordan sat between the two of us on the sofa, eating his popcorn, and he never left his place. Jo said she had never seen him so focused. It was a very good movie, I must say. I think we had a great evening. I would give Jordan little things as gifts now and then, one time giving him a "barrel of monkeys" game. He told Jo later that I was his "favorite uncle". That warmed my heart and brought a chuckle. I'll miss this guy, and I'm sure he'll grow up to be a really fine young man. He's blessed with a large and extended family which adores him, and I know they will always protect him and be there for him when he stumbles.
At Jo's funeral, Jordan was one of only two persons to come up to me where I was sitting and say something nice. I will never forget that thoughtful gesture of his. The other person was Jo's brother John, who I didn't really know that much, sorry to say, but John invited me to sit with the family during the funeral. I want John to know how much I appreciated this kindness.
Before the funeral began, I found out later, I was informed that Jo's family got together for a small group prayer for Jo. I guess Jordan wanted to know why I wasn't there with the family. That really touched my heart and Spirit when I heard this. Thank you, Mr. Jordan!
For this last Christmas, I dropped some bags of gifts for Jo's nieces and nephews to play with at their grandparents. Specifically, I left a remote control plane and some clothes for Jordan. I had asked Jordan's uncle and Jo's brother Kyle to help Jordan learn to handle and fly the RC plane. I hope he has fun with it.
