On many weekday mornings you would find JoAnn and Eliza at Papaccino's Coffee Shop on SE Woodstock. Great place to stretch out, relax, people watch, get on your iPad and enjoy your favorite coffee beverage. In Jo's case, that would be her drink of choice: a 12-oz vanilla latte, decaf, skinny, and a non-sugar sweetener. Very tasty! Papaccino's has a great play area for small children in the corner, which you can see on this page. The only problem was that you couldn't see the kids as they stayed in that area; you could hear them, but you could not see them. And so you had to get up out of your seat now and then and walk over to check on your little one. Jo preferred one of the round tables in the back, not the "cushy" chairs or sofa. Here she would spread out and put together a meal for Eliza, enjoy her drink, and observe the customers coming and going. Of course, Jo always had her sanitizer wipes in her purse ready to clean and disinfect the surface of the table before use; good thing too! Those wipes would always come back dirty gray after a few vigorous swipes.
The corner play area for kids at Papaccino's. The children didn't always "play nice", and there were times when a squabble would erupt over a coveted toy, and Eliza would start crying and screaming. She was a loud child, and there was no mistaking her "signature" scream. Jo would be up immediately to see what might have happened, and usually, "all was well". Because your field of view was blocked unless you stood inside the play area, Jo suggested several times to the owner and employees they might install a convex mirror so that you could observe inside the area without getting out of your seat. The owner/employees seemed enthused by Jo's suggestion and promised they would indeed install one, but nothing was done, and to this day, there still is not a mirror there.
Personal Note: Today (April 7th) was the first day since JoAnn's death that I have been comfortable enough to stop by and order something at Papaccino's. JoAnn and I met there many times after she picked up Eliza so we could visit, and enjoy our beverages while Eliza played. This was a favorite hangout to catch up and a preferred place to "meet up".
